Food4Innovations Holding b.v. is a Dutch holding company based in Wageningen, through which ir. Wouter de Heij operates as an independent researcher, developer, and consultant in food technology, environmental science, and energy systems. The holding provides access to De Heij’s expertise for contracted projects and consultancy, and serves as the vehicle through which he participates in new ventures and investment initiatives. Food4Innovations is also the publishing base for a network of technical blogs and analytical platforms covering food processing, nutrition, nitrogen policy, and energy.
Wouter de Heij
Ir. Wouter B.C. de Heij is a chemical process engineer (TU Delft, Applied Sciences) with over thirty years of applied experience in food technology and innovation. He co-founded TOP b.v. in 2005–2006 as a spin-off from ATO-DLO / Wageningen University & Research, where he served as CEO until 2024. Since 2024 he has no involvement with TOP b.v.; the company is now directed by Marieke de Heij. He was also previously a member of the investment team of BOX N.V. (Blue Ocean Xlerator), a role he no longer holds as of 2025.
De Heij works across three substantive domains:
- Food processing and preservation — minimal processing technologies including HPP (pascalisation), pulsed electric field (PEF), and radio frequency (RF) heating; factory design and process scale-up
- Nitrogen modelling and environmental policy — quantitative analysis of nitrogen flux, deposition, and the Dutch stikstofcrisis; co-author of the 2026 WUR position paper De Nederlandse stikstofcrisis: Van verwarring naar verbinding
- AI and system modelling — computational tools for physico-chemical systems; development of SaaS platforms for food and process applications
